Tribal Clothing

So I originally didn't think I liked this whole Indian/African inspired look that is happening "on the scene" right now, but what do you know, I love it now. It was so unexpected to me at first, but then once I learned how to wear it correctly, I was inspired. Right down to the jewelry, the theme is very catchy. It has a sorta boho feel to it that is care free and can be a little edgy believe it or not. Nicole Richie-Queen of this look (in my opinion)- is edgy, yet carries a whole I don't care hippie look. As a style icon of our century, people should take notes on fashion from her. Well with that said, I am going to buy a pair of frilly, suede sandals to add to my collection of shoes. Ta Ta!

Sunglasses

Sunglasses. What a practical yet wonderful accessory. I mean the bigger they get, the better they get right? I mean that seems to be the common liking throughout history. Well, I guess we can thank Jackie-O for them. I mean I just LOVE sunglasses. I wish I could wear them all the time. However, I would be one of those people who are walking around INSIDE and still have their sunglasses on. Oh did I mention that may be my worst pet peeve. I think that it is so dumb AND RUDE to wear sunglasses inside where you are likely to make eye contact with people. Anywho, enough said on that topic. I really don't have much to say about the actual sunglasses except that I think they are wonderful. I just bought a pair from Boris and Natasha the other day I LOVE them. They are huge, white sunglasses. I feel so out of the sixties when I wear them. I love it! And since sixties mod is my favorite fashion times, it makes me love them even more. Now for those reading, if you don't have the face for huge sunglasses, make sure you know it. There isn't anything worse then looking like an idiot in a pair of sunglasses that look hideous on you. There are so many different types for all face frames, and the good new is...they all look good! That's the fabulous thing about them-there are some for everyone, and you can bet they jazz up an outfit pretty effectively. OK so if there is one thing I hoped to get across, I hope it was that I love sunglasses and I think that they are one (if not THE) best accessory around.

My Epiphany!!

So I have always thought of my style as eclectic. Therefore, when I was asked who my favorite designer was I often found myself not having an answer for the question. I was more or less forced to do a presentation on my "favorite" designer and as I racked my brain of who I wanted to do...it suddenly came to me! MARC JACOBS. The epitome of everything I love. In fact i have never not liked anything by Marc Jacobs. The use of colors that uses-colorful but yet subtle and toned down- is so me. I mean I guess of you were to name most worn colors you would find a lot of black, gray, brown and navy. Not to say I don't love color, it's just that bright, poppy colors aren't for me. However, Marc Jacobs somehow always makes colors inviting to me. He has a way of taking street styles and giving then a high fashion feel to them. If there is one way to sum up my style at all, it would be compfy chic...EXACTLY what I feel embodies Marc Jacobs-Proud to say...my favorite designer.

Christian Siriano for Payless

OMG OMG OMG!!! I never really pay that much attention to Project Runway ( I know I know, shame on me). However, I think that is going to have to change because after seeing what Season 4's winner has produced I am speechless. In Fall 2009 Christian Siriano will open a new, affordable shoe line for Payless. I am so excited because as a victim of this poor economy I am finding myself in a hard place-meaning I can't afford my favorite shoes anymore!! ahhhhh. Well thanks to Christian I moght be able to after all. His shoes are beautiful, with a rocker edge. So my stlyle. And what's best is, he makes them for the poor folk such as myself. Oh Fall 2009 couldn't come any sooner (except I LOVE the summer hehe).

I looooooove HUGE rings!

When it comes to rings, I say "the bigger, the better!" There is nothing more funky and expressive than a huge cocktail ring on well, any finger. They have been around for ages and will continue to do so. I don't know if this is just an opinion that I got from my 92 year old grandma (who still wears big, chunky cocktail rings). If you have a plain outfit that you may want to keep simple, but-like me, you just can't be all the way simple, adding a cocktail ring can be just the right amount of "umf" you need to jazz up your outfit. One lady I think always has beautiful rings is Kate Hudson. Next time you see her in an interview, check out her fingers! I'm serious, my guess is she'll have a huge, chunky ring on one of them, and of course I want ALL of them.
I know everyone is not into huge rings, and they like simple, elegant jewelry, but those who are can share my love for these gigantic rings. I just got a new one the other day, and I love it! It is a huge cream colored stud with gold clasps. If I find a pic on the internet like it I will post it.

nailpolish

If you are able to keep up with polishing your nails every other day then I say do it! I love the way nails look when they freshly painted. They can add so much to your personality. Just by using a certain color you can express your mood at the time. personally right now I am into the black nail polish. However, spring is coming and I am looking forward to tapping in to the fun, bright colors of the season. Pink, yellow and a neutral beige or white are just a few colors that will be big this spring. Also-on a side note, nail length is so important. I think that right above or at the tip of your finger is perfect. It's practical and looks neat. OPI has great nailpolish and if you're looking for quality with a descent price I suggest going to Sally's. Sally's has so many different colors all of which are affordable and durable.
Oh, and as for your toenails, be as crazy as you want. I may never wear an electric green or purple on my finger nails, but with your toenails, feel free to do whatever you want!

Clutch Wallets

I just recently bought a new clutch wallet and I love it! It's exactly what I have wanting. it is thin, compact and available in so many different styles. The best thing about these is that if you are going out with your friends, you don't have to take out a huge purse, because these can be used as an accessory! Now, you can't expect to use this as your full times wallet if you usually keep a check book in your wallet. These aren't meant for loading up a bunch of "junk" however, it is good for your basic credit cards, id and some change. SO if you are a person that likes to go out and hates to carry a big, bulky purse I highly recommend you get a clutch wallet. Seriously, they are a huge convenience.

Chucks!

Chuck Taylor's-the classic sneaker. I have been wearing these my whole life and LOVE THEM! They are my anytime, fashionable, comfortable shoe. Now, you can buy them in so many different colors and styles. Me-I prefer the classic black and white low top. Once the sneaker for "nerds" Chuck's are now a popular, trendy shoe. So if you are ever in the mood to play down an outfit, but still wanna look fashionable and trendy, you should really invest in some Chuck Taylor's. Oh, their real name is Converse all stars. ;)

Glasses

As a college student who can't afford the luxury of wearing contacts, I am stuck with wearing glasses for now. I used to think I was a "four eyed geek," but lately I have embraced my unfortunate eye sight and found that there are many different styles of glasses. In fact, I have even noticed people that don't even need to wear glasses...wearing them!
Currently I only have one pair, but I have decided that as long as I am going to have to wear glasses, I am going to collect them. :) There should be no reason that I should feel stupid in my glasses right? Well I have researched and found that there are sooooooooooo many pairs that I want.
So ladies who wear glasses, don't feel bad. Embrace them and treat yourself every once in awhile for a new pair. I promise, you'll enjoy wearing them a lot more!

Ripped Jeans

I love ripped jeans!! I can't however figure out what all the buzz is about them. Here we are, people of fashion, who spend the time and effort on looking good and keeping up with the styles, SO WE GO OUT AND SPEND $100+ ON RIPPED JEANS?!?!?!

Here's the thing...I would do it any day. They are becoming a staple piece to my wardrobe. You can wear them with an old vintage shirt, a heavy layered necklace, and some Chuck Taylor's. That's like my favorite outfit! Comfy, yet stylish at the same time. I guess looking dingy and wearing clothes that are "worn out" is what's hot.

I don't know, I just can't wrap my finger around it, but I do know that I am in desperate need of some new ripped jeans!!!

Printed Blouses

For awhile I thought maybe people were done with the whole printed blouse thing. Maybe it's because scarves and heavy jewelry were so big? Not that they're out, but I think with the way the economy is going people are trying to find a number of diverse ways to dress. So this spring I predict that there will be a whole lot of different trends walking around. The printed blouse being one of them. However, I want to focus on just the blouse right now.
Do I love it? YES! I think it is timeless and chic. It's such a statement piece you don't need much more umf to the outfit. Just add a cute pencil skirt or skinny jeans, and some cute shoes and you're done! It's so simple, the shirt speaks for the whole outfit! Stars like Heidi Klum, Vanessa Hudgens, Liv Tyler and Lake Bell (to name a few) have been spotted wearing them.
Now, as a woman who mostly wears solid, neutral colors, I have been exploring this printed world, and have found that when you find the right print, it screams your name and you may not get away from it. So, I suggest you go out and get a printed blouse because they are truly good for days when you want to look good, but don't want to work too hard on trying to find an outfit.

House of Harlow 1960

Ok, So I already LOVE Nicole Richie, but she has some how figured a way for me to love her even more. She is so flawless in my eyes. Her style, her personality, her grace...impeccable! Now, her new jewelry line-House of Harlow 1960. Inspired from African and Indian designs, there isn't anything that I don't LOVE! In most of her add campaigns you can see "the ring." Oh, how I wan this ring. It is a gigantic, circle, tribal looking thing, and I MUST HAVE IT!
True to her form, Nicole is pretty humble about her lucky placement in society, so you can find her full line at La's trendy boutique, Kitson with very affordable price points. Seriously, you have to check it out, there is a little something for everyone.

...yes, yes that is her stuff in my previous post. What can I say I just LOVE IT!

My favorite shoes!

Ok, so I just got the shoes I have been looking for!! They are black platinum gladiators with a wooden sole and chunky heals. They are fabulous! What surprised me is that they were Kristin Davis shoes. I actually wasn't aware she was even into designing shoes. Actually, all of her shoes are quite magnificent. I found "the shoes of my dreams" in Belk. Oh, and on a side note-I always park in front of Belk to get into the mall, and as a result I always walk through Belk. I have never been one to shop there, but here lately I have found a lot of great deals and very cute things. I wouldn't underestimate Belk ;) Ok, here's the greatest part of all. The shoes were originally a little over $100, but were 50% off AND I had just returned a pair of jeans my boyfriend got for Christmas, so I had a little store credit. So, my shoes ended up only being like $30! I am sucker for great deals, but this may have been my best one yet! I LOVE the shoes, and I couldn't have found a better pair. They were exactly what I wanted and might I say look fantastic with everything!

Oh Accessories....

I don't know about everyone else, but I LOVE accessories. They are so versatile and can jazz up an outfit or make it look elegant. I'm talking, earrings, necklaces, scarves, pins, hats, bracelets, handbags, rings (big ones), and if you wanna get really into it how about a cute little furry dog?! To me, accessories are what "make" the outfit. I love the days when you put on a white t-shirt, paired with jeans, and whatever kind of shoes. Sounds like a pretty boring outfit right? Just a plain t-shirt and jeans? Well with the right accessories that outfit could graduate to a fashion forward ensemble. Here's how, add a hat, any hat-be it a fedora, a newsboy cap, a cloche whatever-and some nice earrings, a necklace (probably a heavy layered chain necklace or a long pendant necklace) and a HUGE cocktail ring. You will see what accessorizing does. It's like an entire new outfit! If you all are anything like me, you like to be always be comfortable but stylish at the same time. I like to call it "comfy chic." Accessorizing is totally the way to pull it off.

Vintage Tees Rock!

Ok, so I may have a slight obsession with vintage tees. They are so comfortable and if done right can look very fashionable. Let's face it, the economy isn't look too hott right now, so if you really want a new (old) shirt I recommend finding a vintage tee shop. They're cheap and when paired with some skinny jeans or leggings they look awesome! If you would like to dress it up add a heavy layered metal necklace, some strappy heels and a fedora. You can't' go wrong with this look.
If you live in the Charlotte area I recommend going to Hong Kong or Rat's Nest. They have an amazing sort of vintage tees.

Animal Print

Animal Print. Ah, what can I say. It's so beautiful and such a classic. I mean really, when has there been a time when leopard print wasn't around? It has been here since fashion started. Leopard, zebra giraffe, snake skin, crocodile. GOD, timeless and chic! There is one thing that bothers me however, and that is when people over do the animal print. I'm talking as an ensemble, in the house or even in your car. Like I said before, animal print can defiantly be a chic edgyness added to an outfit or used in a living room, but too much will cheapen the look and go from classy to trashy. Be informed that if you are feeling a little animal in you than do it with taste and style by adding a nice scarf or shoes just for a little pop. Don't try to match animal prints. IT WON'T WORK!
